Nutrition is a Personal Choice

Remember the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom? Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is in the temple where the ancient knight is protecting the holy grail. The “bad guy” selects the cup that he believes will give him eternal life, drinks, and proceeds to be physically destroyed .. Rapidly! The knight comments “He chose poorly”.

Then Indiana Jones selects a cup, more basic and much less adorned than the cup previously selected. He drinks and the knight comments “You chose wisely”.

Nutrition is a lot like that. It is a personal choice; choosing poorly will lead to gradual (or sometimes not so gradual) physical destruction but choosing wisely can provide you … well, maybe not eternal life but certainly a more healthy and vital life than you will have if you constantly make poor choices.

That doesn’t necessarily mean depriving yourself. Think basics and variety … lean meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, seeds and nuts, legumes, and the right type and quantity of fat.
